STUDIO CATS
Original Pitch by John Cawley – March 8, 1989
BEHIND THE STORY...
One of my last pitches for Disney dealt again tried to come up with a comedy pair. I thought the back lot of a movie studio would be fun and the addition of country folks to the city would add humor. The head of development thought the idea of cats at a studio was good. Almost a decade later, Turner would produce a film about animals in a Hollywood studio -CATS CAN’T DANCE, directed by a Disney animator.
And now my pitch...
STUDIO CATS
An Animated Feature Proposal by John Cawley
Cats living on the back lot of a movie studio run into problems when a gang of rats moves in. Having grown in-experienced with hostile creatures and the laws of the wild, the cats are soon overcome with rats. Facing possible eviction by the rats, one cat heads into the local hills for help from more powerful animals. He brings back a quarrelsome pair: a male coyote and a female bobcat. However the other cats are not so certain they wish any “outside help” and the two visitors discover there are more rules in a back lot than in the wilds.
