Space Ghost in Ghost Planet A-Go-Go
Original Pitch by John Cawley – Dated March 2001
BEHIND THE STORY...
One of my first jobs at Cartoon Network was working on a direct-to-cable feature starring the Flintstones. The network was thinking of the made-for-cable feature as a way to build up it some of its older, classic characters. In some way, they were considered long pilots. If the revival was successful, a new series might spring from it. Always having been a fan of the original Space Ghost, I thought bringing him into a long form might encourage them to do more than simply utilize him in the SPACE GHOST: COAST TO COAST series. The head of development thought this was a very funny story, and a good idea. However, they stated that the COAST TO COAST series was a very “personal” project of an exec in Atlanta. The development person felt that even suggesting another avenue for the character might be insulting.
And now my pitch...
Space Ghost in Ghost Planet A-Go-Go
Animated Feature Pitch by John Cawley
The universe of entertainment, as well as Space Ghost’s world, is turned upside down when an invasion force from Zorak’s home planet takes the SPACE GHOST COAST TO COAST studio hostage.
Along with “rescuing” Zorak from the prison of late-night TV, they throw Space Ghost in the studio’s dungeon… and he never even knew there was one!
Space Ghost’s hopes to be rescued by his many viewers and sponsors are dashed when the invaders begin producing musical bug beach movies (similar to the old 60’s beach flicks) that become runaway hits!
Now Space Ghost must convince Moltar and Brak to help him escape and re-capture the studio and planet. It will be a tough sales job as Zorak’s buddies have given Moltar a raise, and promised Brak a major role as one of the romantic leads!
Can Space Ghost get them to join his plan? And can this trio defeat a building full of bugs?
---
Produced in the charmingly limited animation style of the series, the feature will allow Space Ghost and his cast to stretch their acting wings… and create a lot of neat stock footage for future episodes of the series!
