Oprah Winfrey
Original Pitch by John Cawley – November 1987
BEHIND THE STORY...
At the time, Hanna-Barbera was seeking celebrity series pitches. Oprah was just beginning to become a force on TV. Hanna-Barbera did not like this pitch. They thought the idea had merit, but did not think Oprah was a strong enough character to support a show on her own.
And now my pitch...
"On the Road with Oprah"
Ever not sure who, or what, you are?
An Animated Series Proposal by John Cawley
Oprah portrays Oprah Warner, well known television reporter. With the financial backing of the KNG Network, her assignment is traveling the country in her high-tech TV studio van looking for human interest stories.
She's given support by her two technical assistants. Each one is tops in their field, and provides more than merely off screen help when working in the field.
Whether it's missing children, phony business claims, school violence, community elections, human rights or unjust laws, Oprah gets personally involved. She not only reports the story, but continues with it until the truth is uncovered.
