BEHIND THE STORY...
When it was announced Adult Swim would start stepping up their production slate, I submitted this idea. It was based on the concept of reality shows where you throw a bunch of different characters together and have fun. In fact, I thought the idea was good enough to adapt the concept into other series (see “Not Half Bad”, “Pet Peeves”.) I thought this had a lot of potential for comedy. The exec liked this, but preferred the Villainous take. I later pitched this to the general network. It was liked, but Warners had just recently decided to develop a series based on Superboy’s pet, Krypto. Eventually, Comedy Central created a series about throwing a bunch of characters into a situation – DRAWN TOGETHER.
And now my pitch...
Kennel of the Super Pets
When Superheroes are off saving the universe, who feeds the dog?
In the Kennel of Super Pets, furry friends of the super heroes wile away time dishing their owners, playing poker, and acting as if they were staying in something between a country club and a prison.
The pets’ personalities range from devoted companion (who thinks anything their master does is right) to resentful schemer (who feels they deserve more) to simple-minded.
Ken, “The Keeper” (of the Kennel), must tend to this menagerie of amazing animals. Though Ken feels he is in control, it is obvious the critters are running this zoo!
Whether it’s putting up with their incredible appetites (both hunger and ego), picking up after their antics, putting up with their insults, or trying to keep them from running off to save the world, Ken has his hands full!
Frequent guests of the Kennel are Ace (Batman’s Great Dane), Beppo (Superboy’s super monkey), Storm (Aquaman's sea horse), Krypto (Superboy’s dog), Blackie (Blackhawk’s bird), Streaky (Supergirl’s cat), Black Wolf (Enemy Ace’s wolf), Detective Chimp (Actually a hero, in by mistake!), Gleek (Superfriends pet monkey), Mousey (Metal Men’s pet rat), and Comet (Supergirl’s horse)
There could even be pets who are just normal pets like Flash’s ferret and Wonder Woman’s parakeet.
