THE FOX AND THE GRAPES
Original Pitch by John Cawley – March 8, 1989
BEHIND THE STORY...
One of my last pitches at Disney features tried to go into their new direction of classic fairy tales. I opted to try a slightly different direction with a send-up to a fable from Aesop. Oddly, after Dreamworks had success with fairy tale satires in SHREK, Disney decided to take a similarly ‘daffy’ take on a classic story with their cgi CHICKEN LITTLE.
And now my pitch...
THE FOX AND THE GRAPES
An Animated Feature Proposal by John Cawley
After several tries, a lazy fox gives up trying to obtain a selection of grapes. However his associates chide him for being a quitter and bringing shame on all foxes. He sets off to correct the error only to find the grapes have been picked and are being driven away in a truck. Not wanting to create a precedent, nor face any real work or danger, he locates two outcasts wolves that will find and bring the grapes to him (for a promised reward). As the wolves sham and bumble their way around the world after the grapes, a mysterious figure follows them in an attempt to thwart the duo’s plans.
